7-Week Course to Teach Kids About Anxiety and Anxiety Management Strategies!

The in person and online group will run for seven sessions. The first 45 minutes of the session will be for your child and the last 15 minutes will be for parents to hear a summary of the session, and ask questions.

The parent portion takes place on Zoom. For in-person groups, the church WiFi is accessible so you can access Zoom on your phone from your car in the parking lot. The kids stay in the room with Sharon and continue to work on an activity while Sharon leads the 15-minute Zoom session with parents. Sharon wears ear buds so parents can ask questions without the kids overhearing.

I love these works of art made by the 10-12-year-olds in our “Brain Science” Children’s Anxiety Management group. When they crafted this artwork, they were learning about trust versus worry, and how we can base our lives on taking the path of worry or trust. We also discussed the fact that we don’t know what our future holds, so we can worry our way there or trust our way there. Which path makes us more calm and gives us more happiness?

I just wanted to let you know that your “Brain Science” course has made a beautiful difference in our daughter’s life. She developed an intense fear of the ocean this spring and summer as COVID changed our lives. That fear was very limiting as we live so close to the water. We spent much of the summer doing the same trail walk she was comfortable with in the woods, instead of enjoying local beaches and enjoying the beautiful sea wall near our home. Last weekend, before we headed out the door for that old familiar hike, she said she wanted to walk by the ocean instead. We have so missed doing this walk as a family, but she used to shake and sob if we tried to force it. This past weekend, she was so confident and proud of herself as she walked. You have given her the concept that her feras may not be the truth and she can choose to send them away.

Thank you so much!

I could not make a higher recommendation for Sharon Selby’s seven week, online Brain Science and Self Empowerment programs.  As a healthcare worker, neuroplasticity nerd and mom this program ticked ALL the boxes. I wish every kid and parent had access to these incredible programs. They have been so supportive and helpful in providing our 8 year old with tools to navigate emotional regulation, anxiety and fear, self compassion and the complexities of social relationships. I LOVED that each class was art based learning. Sharon creates an organized, engaging, supportive and safe space for kids to learn and share what they are learning using their own voice and creative gifts. At first I wondered if a group, Zoom based platform, would work to keep our child involved. I was so pleasantly surprised.  It was wonderful to see how the kids in the group supported each other in peer based learning. They would sometimes share difficulties they were experiencing and the advice and support they gave each other was so heartwarming. Sharon guides the group with curiosity, wisdom and genuine care making sure everyone feels seen, heard and involved to the best of their ability. I really learned so much too and appreciated the final 10 minutes of each class where the parents got caught up on what the kids learned in their 50 minutes together. If you are reading this review and are on the fence about signing up, just do it. These courses have been an absolute game changer for our family.

Thank you so much for all you have done for our child and for us.  I couldn’t have imagined the extent of impact of this group and your sessions on our lives…This has been an amazing gift.  Thank you for sharing your wisdom, warmth and guidance.

My daughter was struggling with anxiety and it was getting to the point where it was beginning to affect her and our life on a daily basis. If she knew she was going to be outside of her comfort zone she would start to panic and focus on something in an obsessive and negative way in anticipation of the upcoming situation. She was the most anxious she had ever been when she started the six-week anxiety management course with Sharon. She loved Sharon immediately and felt very comfortable with her. She has learned through Sharon why she may feel this way and how to use skills to help her cope better. I wondered how much she might absorb as a six-year-old but she seems to be able to remember and use what Sharon has taught her. As she was taking the course her anxiety decreased dramatically. When she begins to get anxious again we use the skills she has learned and talk about how she can manage and cope with the things that are bothering her. I have also learned how to help her. Our experience with Sharon has been invaluable. My daughter says she is the best teacher she has ever had! Thanks Sharon.

My daughter, 7 yrs, has attended Sharon’s anxiety group and benefited greatly from it even after the first session. She was having problems with coping in school and after Sharon’s group she was better able to cope with everyday situations that arose at school and at home – less extreme outbursts with us and her sister. I have also attended Sharon’s parent group and found her sessions informative and practical. Sharon is a warm and friendly coach to assist my daughter in learning to improve her emotional intelligence.

My daughter was having a really hard time going to school. She would complain of stomach aches, headaches, cry and refuse to go into the class. A teacher at our school told me about Sharon. Sharon exceeded my expectations. She is warm, welcoming, and genuinely cares about each child in her group. My daughter can now continue her journey in life with skills I wish I had when I was only 7 years old, and I as a parent have a better understanding to help my child deal with the “worry bugs”.
~ Sincerely, Stacey
My daughter found the “Brain Course” to really informative. It helped her with her self-confidence, especially understanding that her anxiety is something that can be controlled and that other children go through as well.
