Making Time to Connect

One of my clients introduced me to Table Topic cards, as through our work together, she knew that I was passionate about keeping the Connection/Attachment between parents and children strong.  I love to hear about new resources and I now share my client’s enthusiasm about these great cards! It’s such a simple idea yet so effective.  135 question cards come in a cute, cube shaped box and are packaged according to many themes:  Original, Family, Teen (these are the three sets that I now own), Family Gathering (to bridge conversation across generations), Couples, Dinner Party, Happiness, Heroes, Infomania – Sports, etc.  The simple idea is to choose a card, read it out and have a discussion.  We tend to use them at dinner-time and our children (ages 10 and 8 really enjoy them).  We also had some friends over for dinner and put a card face-down at each person’s place setting (including the children’s) for each person to take a turn leading a question, which led to a great round-table discussion.  There’s also smaller sets of 40 questions “to-go”, for road trips and travel etc.

Examples of some of the questions:

Family Box questions:

• If you could volunteer your time to help one charity which would you choose?
• What’s the story behind your name?

Original Box questions:

• What one fear would you like to conquer?
• What makes a house a home?

Teen Box questions:

• Who do you look up to?
• Which celebrity would you like to spend the afternoon with?
